Fundraiser to Support Ed Platis
Our neighbors Ed and Jackie (Stachnik) Platis were newlyweds in 2008 with beautiful hopes and dreams for the future when Ed developed a chronic cough. Four months later, Ed – at 28 years old – was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). Hearts afflicted with CHF become so weak they don’t pump enough blood to vital organs, which eventually causes organ failure and death.
Despite doing everything possible to battle CHF, Ed’s heart has deteriorated. Ed has not responded to medication or surgeries, and is now on a heart transplant list. In March, 2011, Ed had a pump (LVAD – Left Ventricular Assist Device) surgically attached to his heart to pump his blood for him until he receives a heart transplant. Ed hasn’t been able to work and the “fixer-upper” home they bought when he was healthy is uninhabitable in Ed’s condition.
